This course exposes students to English language usage and grammar as well as to effective reading, writing, and vocabulary development skills. This course will focus on various areas such as: a brief historical look at the English language, English grammar – parts of speech, clauses, phrases, vocabulary development, comprehension skills, reading techniques, writing skills, the writing process, summary writing, literacy skills, among others. This course aims to equip learners with English language skills that will enable them to read and write more effectively and ultimately improve their communication skills. These skills are necessary in their studies as they write their assignments and exams and even at the workplace where they will be required to communicate effectively.
