Modern power systems are highly meshed and very difficult to operate, and regulate. The power networks in use today are made up of a combination of different energy sources. They are designed to meet the world's rapidly increasing energy needs, maintain energy supplies, support sustainable development goals, and offer accessible, environmentally friendly energy options that benefit society at large. The networks typically include a range of energy sources, conventional and non-conventional, sizable high-voltage transmission and distribution networks with a variety of substations that are outfitted with cutting-edge, sophisticated control units, and with variety loads.  Consequently, the operation and control of these complex power networks are getting more difficult. To address this issue, the network must be operated and controlled economically while taking overall energy reliability into account. This course covers the methods and strategies needed to operate and control power systems, both present and future, in a secure and dependable manner. Topics such as the fundamentals of power systems and its operation, unit commitment, economic operation and control of the network, load frequency control, reactive power and voltage control, modeling of governor, turbine, and excitation systems for power system controlling, and power system security analysis are included.
