Course Description.

This course is dedicated to studying the principles of relay protection and automation (RPA), their role in ensuring the reliability and safety of power systems. It covers modern technologies, the principles of operation of protection devices, their configuration, and operation.


Course Objectives

- Learn the basic principles of relay protection.

- Become familiar with different types of protection for various power system elements (generators, transformers, transmission lines, busbars, motors, etc.).

- Master the methods of setting and calculating relay protection parameters.

- Understand modern digital technologies and microprocessor-based protection devices.


Course Program

1. Introduction to Relay Protection- Purpose and objectives of RPA  - Historical development of relay protection  - Basic requirements for relay protection.

2. Electrical Principles of Relay Protection- Current, voltage, and differential protections  - Time-delay protections and selectivity  - Sensitivity and reliability of protections.

3. Relay Protection of Various Power System Elements- Transmission lines  - Transformers  - Generators  - Electric motors  - Bus sections.

4. Modern Digital Relays and Microprocessor-Based Devices- Principles of digital relay operation  - Automation and remote control  - Fault analysis and diagnostics of protections.
